This W.G. MacFarlane postcard, “Harbour Front, Sydney, C.B.” is the earliest use I have encountered in this series. The card was mailed from Sydney on July 22, 1902 with a 1¢ QV Numeral to Womelsdorf, PA, USA.

This W.G. MacFarlane postcard, no. 78 “A Typical Cattle Ranch in the North-West Territories of Canada” is the earliest use I have encountered in this series. The card was mailed from Calgary on December 11, 1902 with a 2 QV Numeral to Nottingham, England.

Patriotic Postcards with Private Mailing Card backs
W.G. MacFarlane appears to have released their black and white view cards, and, about the same time, several series of patriotic postcards, one showing Evangeline, and a pair of series with a non-embossed City of Halifax crest in either pink or blue colour, as shown below, with the early Private Mailing Card backs, starting about 1902.
These patriotic postcards appear generally of the same design as the view cards, other than the added crest.
The earliest card I’ve come across in this series so far is postally used on July 6, 1902. If you know of earlier dates, please let me know.

Another early W.G. MacFarlane patriotic postcard, card no. 26 from Series 24B, showing the pink version of the City of Halifax crest, has been added. This card has the earliest Private Mailing Card back, mailed June 23, 1903 from Halifax with a 2¢ QV numeral stamp (a week before the KEVII stamps were issued), to Argentina. The card bears a June 25th NYC transit marking.
