Wm. Tyrrell & Co.
Wm. Tyrrell & Co. was a bookseller and stationer in Toronto, who, in the early part of the 20th century, published a series of patriotic postcards. Some of these cards were numbered. If numbered, the numbers are shown below.
During at least the period of 1900—1905, Wm. Tyrrell & Co. was located at 8 King Street West in Toronto. During that time, the company also published the Society Blue Book of Toronto, Hamilton (and later & London), a social directory of 2,500 “Elite Families of Toronto and Hamilton”. Following that time, the book’s publisher was changed.
The patriotic postcards shown here appear to date from 1904.
In the May 1956 issue of BNA Topics, on page 109, in an article by the Perfins Study Group, they note that perfin W12 was used by Wm. Tyrrell & Co., then Tyrrell’s Book Shop on Yonge Street.
The cards are shown classified by the numbering system shown in Michael J. Smith’s The Canadian Patriotic & Heraldic Postcard Handbook 1897–1945 Volume 2.
