This W.G. MacFarlane postcard from Series 79, shows an embossed horseshoe with a child’s image superimposed.

The card was mailed locally within Woodstock, Ontario on February 26 1908.

Note the text “W.G. MacFarlane , Toronto, Buffalo and Berlin” on the card, and the wide range of languages that the term Post Card has been provided in, as part of the European operations that MacFarlane was embracing by this time. Below, the reverse of the card.

Series 79

The postcards of W.G. MacFarlane are extensively catalogued in the second edition of “The W.G. MacFarlane Picture Postcard Handbook, 1910-1910” by Michael J. Smith, a book that is essential for the collector of this prolific Canadian postcard publisher. The series numbers shown relate to Mike Smith’s book.

Series 79 shows a pair of differnt motifs, a horseshoe, shown at left, and a vertical frame with flowers, both designs incorporating portraits.

Cards from this series come with a W.G. MacFarlane publisher’s attribution that includes reference to their Berlin office.
