This pioneer postcard shows a view of the Town of Medicine Hat, N.W.T., with the CPR railway bridge crossing the South Saskatchewan River in the foreground. Prior to th arrival of European settlers, Blackfoot, Cree and Assiniboine Nations inhabited the area for hundreds of years. Following the arrival of the railway in 1883, the town was incorporated on October 31, 1898. The card bears a 1¢ QV Numeral stamp cancelled with a Medicine Hat ASSA duplex cancellation dated May 1, 1900. The card was received May 5 in New York, and shows an indistinct, faint cancellation, possibly from New York.


Below, the reverse of the card, with a message from Joseph Mills, writing to Geo. H. Lee Co. of 68 Murray Street, New York City, USA, asking to receive a catalog of the firm’s goods, as the writer is about to begin breeding hens and would like to purchase Lice Killer for Hens as advertised in Farm and Fireside.
