Parkdale was first settled in the 1850s, and was incorporated as a village in 1879. Located on the western edge of Toronto, it was annexed by the City in 1889. It was bounded by Roncesvalles Avenue on the west, Dufferin Street on the east, Lake Ontario on the south, and Fermanagh Avenue on the north. Later, when development grew along Roncesvalles Avenue, the area adjoining Roncesvalles came to be know as Roncesvalles Village. The area north of Queen is sometimes referred to as North Parkdale.
